Kids Program Updates 2027

As Fargo BJJ continues to grow, we are always looking for ways to improve our programs and
provide our students with the highest-quality Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction possible.

Beginning in October, we are making several important updates to our Kids BJJ Program.
One of the biggest changes is that all of our kids, including our youngest students, will begin
learning submissions as part of their regular curriculum.

In the past, our youngest age group focused primarily on positions, escapes, control, and
fundamental movements before submissions were introduced. Moving forward, we believe our
students will benefit from learning the complete art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the beginning, taught in
an age-appropriate and carefully supervised environment.

Following IBJJF Standards
To determine which submissions are appropriate for each student, Fargo BJJ will be using the IBJJF
age- and experience-level rules as our guide.

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation‘s rules establish which techniques and submissions
are appropriate at different ages and experience levels. This gives our instructors a clear
progression for introducing submissions safely while allowing our students to develop a more
complete understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

As always, safety remains our first priority. Kids will learn not only how to perform submissions
correctly, but equally important, how to recognize when they are caught, how to tap, and how to
safely train with their teammates.

This is another step in our continued pursuit of excellence and our commitment to making sure
Fargo BJJ continues to provide the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction and experience our
region has to offer.

BJJ Gis Will Now Be Required for All Kids

Because submissions will now be incorporated into every age group’s curriculum, we are also
making an important uniform change.

Beginning in October, all Kids BJJ students will be required to train in an authentic Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu Gi.

The lightweight “Starter Gis” that some of our younger students have traditionally worn are
essentially entry-level karate-style uniforms. They worked well when our youngest students were
primarily learning positions and movements, but they are not designed for the gripping, pulling,
choking, and submission techniques used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

A true BJJ Gi is constructed very differently. The stronger woven material and reinforced, thicker
collars are specifically designed to withstand the grips and pressures created during Jiu-Jitsu
training. That construction also helps distribute pressure more effectively and reduces the rubbing,
bunching, and chafing that can occur when lighter uniforms are used during submission training.
For that reason, the change isn’t simply about appearance or uniformity. It’s about making sure our
kids are training in equipment designed for the art they are learning in the safest way
possible.

October Gi Trade-In Special

To help families make the transition, Fargo BJJ will offer a 10% discount on a new Fargo BJJ Kids
Gi during the month of October when you turn in your child’s old Starter Gi.

After October, Starter Gis will no longer be permitted in Kids BJJ classes.
If your child already has an authentic BJJ Gi, there is nothing you need to do.

We know changes like these require a little adjustment, and we appreciate everyone’s support as we
continue improving the Fargo BJJ Kids Program.

Our goal has always been bigger than simply teaching techniques. We want to give our kids the best
possible Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu education in an environment built around Community, Excellence &
Grit.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being part of the Fargo BJJ family.
